Item #22 <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY FOR THE <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />For the City Council Meeting of <br />July 17, 2001 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />FROM: Kathy Kivley, Assistant to the City Ma r <br />Robb Steel, Redevelopment Directo <br />SUBJECT: Authorization to Solicit Bids for Construction of Washington <br />Street Median Project <br />DATE: July 2, 2001 <br />Background <br />On February 1, 2000 the City Council adopted Resolution R-08-00, which approved the <br />appropriation and expenditure of certain Redevelopment Agency tax increment funds for the <br />acquisition, installation and construction of various public Improvements which benefit the <br />Santa Ana River Redevelopment Project Area. Included in this list of projects was the <br />construction of new landscaped and lighted center median which includes an underground <br />drainage culvert along Washington Street from Waterman Avenue to Hunts Lane and a <br />landscape improvement project on the southeast corner of Washington Street and Barton <br />Road. <br />On June 20, 2000 the Agency approved a contract for design services with LD King for the <br />design of the median and drainage improvements. After various meetings and reviews by <br />City staff and the general public, the designs and construction plans are now complete. <br />Discussion <br />The scope of the Washington median project was expanded to include landscaping <br />improvements to three (3) turn islands along Washington Street at Waterman Avenue, Hunts <br />Lane and Barton Road as well as combine it with a small landscaping project for southeast <br />corner of Washington and Barton Road. <br />Contract documents and specifications for the median project have been prepared by the <br />design engineer LD King. The Engineer's estimate for these projects is $724,583 including a <br />15% amount for contingencies. The original construction cost estimate for these projects <br />was $817,923. Please refer to copies of engineer's estimate and original cost estimate <br />attached to the staff report as Exhibit "A". <br />Item #22 <br />
