Lavin, Water Utilities Manager i <br />SUBJECT: Approval of Change order to Insituform <br />Contract for Rehabilitation of Sewer <br />Line in Mt. Vernon Avenue <br />Date: May 25, 1993 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />At the May 4, 1993 Council awarded a contract to Insituform for the rehabilitation of a sewer <br />line in Mt Vernon Avenue from Colton Avenue south to Shasta Drive. Insituform was the "sole <br />bidder on the project. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Staff had the sewer line in Mt. Vernon Avenue re -inspected to determine the extent of damage <br />to the sewer line. It has been determined that the un -reinforced concrete sewer line has <br />collapsed in several locations and the street may cave in due to the condition of the sewer <br />line. Mt. Vernon Avenue is a highly travelled street and the possibility of the street <br />caving in is of great concern to staff. <br />Insituform is scheduled to begin work on the contracted section of Mt. Vernon Avenue on <br />June 2. Staff feels that it is in the City's best interest to have the additional section <br />of sewer line rehabilitated at the same time as the contracted section. The change order is <br />in the amount of $90,318.00 and there are sufficient funds in the Water Quality Control <br />budget for the change order. <br />RECOMMENDATION• <br />Staff recommends that, Council approve the change order in the. amount of $90,318.00 to the <br />Insituform contract to rehabilitate the additional section of sewer line in Mt.
