CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of April 20, 1999
To:. Honorable Mayor & City Council
s
Approval: Henry Garcia, City Manage
From: Dennis Morris, Human Resource Director 1-- `
Alan Denfeld, Recreation Services Manager
Subject: Use of Fleming Park & Bandshell by First Baptist Church
of Colton on Sunday, May 2, 1999 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Date: April 7,1999
BACKGROUND:
This is a community outreach event to include a church service, to be held on Sunday, May 2, 1999, using
the Bandshell as the stage. The bandshell is a beautiful setting and background for this use. The church
has the well-being of the community at heart, and they are striving for community involvement in their
event. First Baptist Church is located across the street from Fleming Park, and all attendees will use
restrooms and other facilities of their own organization, so that no additional restrooms will be necessary.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Since the park is maintained by Public Works, there will be no impact on staff hours. Park restrooms are
normally open fi-om 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; no additional costs will be incurred. However, they will
require electricity for powering their own sound system; as they are a church, no fees will be charged to the
group (per the August 1998 Council directive regarding fee waivers).
CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT:
Attendance is expected to be approximately 700 adults, 300 youths (500 Colton residents). As a park
dedicated to the community's use, Fleming Park seems an appropriate setting for a community outreach
event.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the request by First Baptist Church of Colton for the use of Fleming Park &
Bandshell on Sunday, May 2, 1999.
PREPARED BY:
Karen Hinckley, Office Specialist II
Attachment: Facility Request
Item # 6
