CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF JANUARY 21, 2003 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Cou it M mb FROM: Joe McCann, Acting/ Chief of olice SUBJECT: Approval of the California La E Et Equipment Program (CLEEP) High Technology Grant DATE: January 6, 2003 BACKGROUND: Item #2 The State of California Department of Justice is providing funds for the 2002 California Law Enforcement Equipment Program High Technology Grant. This grant would provide funding for police departments to upgrade technology. The City of Colton is eligible to receive $23,133.51 under this grant. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: With the funds received through the High Technology Grant, the Police Department intends to purchase ten computers and upgrade several others within the police department. These purchases and upgrades will allow the department to improve access to required databases and improve customer service in our Records Division by eliminating the need for our personnel to share resources. Additionally, the department will purchase an upgrade to our Dialogic software program that allows the department to provide information to the citizens of the community via a computer generated telephone call to their residence. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None. FISCAL IMPACT: The state's grant award provides a total of $23,133.51 for the grant year. There are no matching funds required of this grant and there is no impact on the general fund. Staff recommends approval of the grant, associated expenditures, and the resolution to authorize the increase in the appropriations in account 100-6070-6077-2301-0000-001 and revenue estimate account 100-6764 in the amount of $23,133.51.
