CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF JANUARY 21, 2003 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Cou it M mb <br />FROM: Joe McCann, Acting/ Chief of olice <br />SUBJECT: Approval of the California La E Et Equipment Program <br />(CLEEP) High Technology Grant <br />DATE: January 6, 2003 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Item #2 <br />The State of California Department of Justice is providing funds for the 2002 California Law <br />Enforcement Equipment Program High Technology Grant. This grant would provide funding for <br />police departments to upgrade technology. The City of Colton is eligible to receive $23,133.51 <br />under this grant. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />With the funds received through the High Technology Grant, the Police Department intends to <br />purchase ten computers and upgrade several others within the police department. These <br />purchases and upgrades will allow the department to improve access to required databases and <br />improve customer service in our Records Division by eliminating the need for our personnel to <br />share resources. Additionally, the department will purchase an upgrade to our Dialogic software <br />program that allows the department to provide information to the citizens of the community via a <br />computer generated telephone call to their residence. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />The state's grant award provides a total of $23,133.51 for the grant year. There are no matching <br />funds required of this grant and there is no impact on the general fund. <br />Staff recommends approval of the grant, associated expenditures, and the resolution to authorize <br />the increase in the appropriations in account 100-6070-6077-2301-0000-001 and revenue <br />estimate account 100-6764 in the amount of $23,133.51. <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br />Reject the grant award and purchase necessary equipment from General Fund accounts. <br />Prepared by: Frank Coe, Police Lieutenant <br />REVIEW TEAM N Y <br />City Attorney: Finance <br />City Manager: OTHER: <br />
