CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of February 5, 1991
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT:
Authorization to Proceed with Phase II of the Date: January 30, 1991
Water Quality Control Plant Expansion
RA(-urnr)r iNn -
Recently the City completed the first phase of an emergency expansion of the Water
Quality Control Plant (1 million gallons of additional capacity for wastewater).
This expansion was implemented to meet the needs for sewer service due to development
under construction and proposed development for the near future. This project began
in late 1988.
At that time the additional 1 MG plant expansion was presented to Council, and it
was identified then that the additional capacity was for the immediate needs to
accommodate recent growth and a means to allow continued development for proposed
projects submitted at that time.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
The design, environmental review permit process and construction of the plant expansion
for 1 MG spanned a period of almost two years. As presented in the original report
by Leslie Keane, Assistant City Manager, this facility expansion would need to be
preceded by additional expansions in order to accommodate future growth, during the
last two years growth has continued and numerous new projects are proposed.
Currently the newly expanded facility is accommodating average daily flows, but is
continuing to increase as new projects come on line, and with the number of new
tentative proposed projects it is now time to begin the next phase of the plant
expansion to insure capacity needs.
Attachments: 1
Page t of 2
ORIGIMAU Item No. S
ocQ4' i
