Moved by Councilman Rehrer, seconded by Councilman Rios, the Public Hear-
ing was terminated. Unanimous vote.
Moved by Councilman Rehrer, seconded by Councilman Rios, to approve Job
Description and Resolution No. R-64-87 for City Librarian. Unanimous
vote.
RESOLUTION NO. R-64-87 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLTON AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. R-60-87.
Appeals
Index No. V-3-87
Mayor Gonzales declared the Public Hearing open.
City Clerk Ramos submitted the Affidavit of Publication and reported
the no protests or objections had been received.
Community Development Director Aguilera reported on an Appeal filed by
Lincoln Jewelers, Michael Schon, on denial of a Variance, Index No.
V-3-87. Mr. Aguilera advised the Planning Commission considered the
Variance application at a public hearing held May 12, 1987, at which
time no one spoke in favor of or against the matter, and the applicant
failed to appear at the hearing.
Mr. Aguilera continued the Planning Commission discussed the issue and
concluded that an existing tree, in front of the store and proposed
sign, was there prior to the tenant taking occupancy and that removal
of the tree was not in the best interest of the community. The Planning
Commission did not mind allowing the Variance, but felt if the tree was
not removed, the Variance issue was moot. Mr. Aguilera said seeing no
way to compromise and not being able to discuss the issue with the ap-
plicant, the Commission denied the request for a Variance.
Mr. Aguilera concluded if the Council agrees with the Planning Commis-
sion recommendation, a motion to deny the Appeal would be in order.
Mayor Gonzales asked if anyone present desired to speak on this matter.
Mr. Michael Schon, owner of Lincoln Jewelers, stated he had not been
notified about the Planning Commission hearing, otherwise he would have
attended the meeting. Mr. Schon said he has operated Lincoln Jewelers
in Colton for over 27 years. Mr. Schon stated he is requesting that a
sign be put up advertising the business, however, there is a very old,
unsightly tree at that location that leans over on the facia. Mr. Schon
said he would like to have the tree removed, and he would plant an
attractive bush in its place, and also have a professional gardner
maintain the bush.
3
