Minutes of 3/15/94
Mr. Charles Jackson said he was present for the City Council
Meeting of March 15th where he learned of a threatening telephone
call to Councilmember Bennett by Mayor Gonzales through
Councilmember Sandoval. He complained that the Official Record did
not carry a verbatim transcript of that exchange. He questioned
the lack of leadership and wanted to know why City Council had not
done something. He said the Council should censure and stated that
threats should not be allowed. He wanted an addendum to the
minutes of March 15, 1994, to include the names of the individuals
mentioned.
Graffiti Paint Out Da
Mr. Jon Zane, 958 N. La Cadena, Chairman of the Graffiti Abatement
Program (GAP), announced that the graffiti paint -out day on
Saturday, July 16, 1994, was a success. He said there were
seventy-five workers who painted the town walls. He thanked
everyone who had participated. Councilmember Rios inquired about
sandblasted walls. Mr. Zane informed that homeowners had been
contacted and they had agreed to the wall painting, in a matching
color. Councilmembers Bennett and Cook complimented Mr. Zane for
his hard work and a successful event.
Colton Western Days
Mr. Jon Zane urged that the City Council and the Colton Chamber of
Commerce join to sponsor "Colton Western Days" in October, which is
fast becoming a tradition and is a fund-raising event for the youth
and the Chamber of Commerce.
Promises
Mr. Jesse Valdivia, Sr., 644 East "C" Street, spoke about traffic
signs; scorpions, an endangered species, in South Colton; the
budget; and the City's hiring practice. He said that City Council
had approved naming a baseball field for his late nephew who had
devoted his time and energy to the youth of this community. Mr.
Valdivia complained that this action was taken a long time ago and
nothing had been done. With Council approval, Mayor Gonzales asked
Director Hutton to investigate the matter. Councilmember Bennett
suggested that there be a dedication. Mayor Gonzales directed
Events Coordinator Hernandez to schedule the event.
Rancho Mediterrania
Messrs. Kris Williamson and Terence Nemchik, 700 E. Washington,
addressed Council on (1) a list of names submitted for appointment
to a homeowners association board of directors and (2) a request
for rent increase freeze. Mr. Williamson said that a request for
a board formation was made a month ago. He was now offering the
4
,ii , 1 9 1994
