He suggested halting house sales <br />and Councilmember Bennett replied that this could not be done. <br />City Attorney Biggs informed Mr. Anderson that the City is willing <br />to find out what can be done to assist him but there can no <br />assurance that anything will be done at this time. She emphasized <br />that there are other remedies available to him and suggested that <br />he reconsider seeking an attorney's advice. She advised that the <br />City does not stand in his position and that he must pursue his own <br />remedies. <br />MAYOR & COUNCIL ITEMS <br />Boards & Commissions <br />Motion by Councilmember Rios, seconded by Councilmember Sandoval, <br />to appoint Mr. Ray Lopez to the Utilities Commission, to fill an <br />unexpired term. Unanimous vote. <br />Proclamation <br />Upon motion by Councilmember Sandoval, seconded by Councilmember <br />Cook, and unanimous approval of Council, Mayor Gonzales read the <br />Proclamation declaring the month of April 1994 as Recycling <br />Awareness Month. Administrative Analyst II Cortez accepted the <br />proclamation. <br />Commendation <br />Mayor Gonzales introduced Ms. Marty Rodriguez, representative of <br />Senator Ayala who presented a Certificate of Recognition to Mrs. <br />Helen Cortez for "exemplary service to the community and for being <br />very instrumental in the very successful composting project plus <br />for her sincere dedication, not only to the community, but to those <br />who are struggling with the up -hill battle with cancer." Mrs. <br />Cortez accepted the certificate and conveyed appreciation to Ms. <br />Rodriguez and to Senator Ayala. <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />Business License <br />Mayor Gonzales announced that this was the time and place continued <br />to for Public Hearing for consideration to Amend Title 5 of the <br />Colton Municipal Code (Business License Ordinance- <br />Clarification/Correction of Amendment of 4/20/93; Modification of <br />Renewal Periods and Increase Penalties for Late Filing/No Filing.) <br />Mayor Gonzales declared the Public Hearing open. <br />City Clerk Ramos submitted the Notice of Continuance and reported <br />that no protests or objections were received. <br />7 <br />MAR 1 5 1994 <br />
