Colton Boxing Club
Mr. John M. Aguilar, Jr., 1625 Alston Avenue, reported that he was
present at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting held
September 28, wherein Chairman Sal Rios gave the Colton Boxing Club
two ultimatums: (1) Wants the club to get liability for the
program. Mr. Aguilar wanted to discuss the matter with the City
Attorney. (2) Mr. Aguilar was asked if he would accept a facility
outside of Colton and after careful consideration he stated that he
would not accept a facility outside of Colton. He believed the
matter no longer to be with the Parks and Recreation Commission and
inquired about the next step.
Director Anstine said that at the direction of the City Manager,
staff was setting up a joint meeting with the clubs and Chairman
Rios to discuss the course of action. Mr. Aguilar did not
understand why the other group had to be at the meeting. Director
Anstine responded that the decision affects all of the citizens of
Colton.
Mr. Aguilar inquired of the Councilmembers if they had reviewed the
information on the 5 -year plan that he had previously provided to
them. He said he would be asking about park development fees.
Mayor Gonzales announced that Director Anstine is looking for
grants/funds for the boxing groups.
Good Deed
Mr. John Longfield said that he was present to praise a member of
the Police Department. On Halloween night, a neighborhood cat was
hit and seriously injured. At 6:10 A. M., he called for the Animal
Control Officer and found he would report at a later time. He
learned that off-duty officer Gamache, Badge No. 2911, had heard
the call and he took the animal control vehicle to pick up the
injured cat. Mr. Longfield recalled that at a recent meeting, the
high school students had mentioned the need to have role models and
he offered that this was a person who fit that need. His 4 -year
old daughter thought Officer Gamache's actions as "neat."
MAYOR & COUNCIL ITEMS:
Boards and Commissions
Mayor Gonzales declared there were nothing to discuss.
Recognition
Mayor Gonzales read the Resolution of Recognition presented to the
Colton High School Pep Dance Squad who took center stage at the
National Cheerleaders' Association camp at UCLA.
