I Library Budget <br />David Davis, City Librarian, reported that staff has worked with the Library Board of Trustees, City <br />Manager Martinez and Finance Director Vega in developing the Review of 1996-97 Proposed Budget <br />for the Library and informed Council that they are satisfied with the budget. <br />Motion/second, by Mayor Fulp/CM Bennett, to accept the tentative Library Budget for 1996-97. <br />Motion carried with CM Hutton absent and CM Sanders temporarily absent from the dais. <br />Anna Vega, Finance Director, presented the Library Grant Fund for review. <br />Motion/second, by Mayor Fulp/CM Cook, to accept the tentative Budget for the Library Grant Fund <br />for 1996-97. Motion carried with CM Hutton absent. <br />Lori Fretz, Childcare Coordinator, presented to Council an overview of the cost to continue the Alice <br />Birney Child Care Program and Lincoln Elementary Childcare Program open and recommended <br />closing both childcare center's. <br />Discussion followed with Finance Director Vega, City Attorney, and Coordinator Fretz providing <br />clarification. <br />John Longfield, Colton resident, expressed his concerns as to how children would be transported and <br />raising of fees effective July 1, 1996. <br />Motion/second, by CM Bennett/Sanders, to approve closure of both childcare facilities. <br />Councilmember Beltran requested that the maker of the motion add to rescind the Childcare <br />Department revised budget as approved May 29, 1997, and to accept the tentative proposed Childcare <br />Department Budget for 1996-97 as originally submitted by staff. <br />Vote taken on the motion by Councilmember Bennett who agreed with modification as requested by <br />Councilmember Beltran. Motion carried with CM Hutton absent. <br />Coordinator Fretz informed Council of the need to address the deficit of $107,000 that the childcare <br />program is now experiencing. Without objection, Mayor Fulp directed City Manager Martinez to add <br />this item as an urgency item to the upcoming Tuesday meeting. <br />"aliffaVITLOM1W <br />James King, Principal Engineer, reported that staff has worked with City Manager Martinez and <br />Finance Director Vega in developing the Review of 1996-97 Proposed Budget for Public Works and <br />informed Council that they are satisfied with the budget, except for administration and engineering. <br />2 <br />
