Mr. Jimmy Ramirez, President, and Mr. Mike Correra recapped the history of the Colton <br />-- Youth Soccer organization and listed the fundraising events planned to celebrate its 20'h <br />anniversary. They acknowledged the support of local businesses and distributed T-shirts. <br />Various Subjects <br />Mr. Bill Yahn addressed the Taormina selection, the public safety utility user tax, and <br />requested use of cars and first aid training for the Colton Volunteer Fire Association. <br />Mr. Russ Wathey, San Bernardino resident and President of the Inland Empire Freedom <br />Coalition, commented on the lawsuit by Taormina against Steven Anderson and he supported <br />the termination of the City Manager and demotion of the Assistant City Manager. <br />Mr. Fred Cordova spoke against the Colton Volunteer Fire Association and supported <br />C.A.R.E.S., sponsored by -the Fire Department. He spoke about the process used to select <br />Taormina Industries and the excellent job it is doing. He expressed appreciation for Council's <br />support, as well as Police Department and Fire Department. <br />Ms. Jean Hart listed complaints to Colton Youth Soccer at Alice Birney; President Ramirez <br />said his group did not play at that school and she was referred to the Colton School District. <br />RECESS: <br />At 9:25 P. M., Mayor Gaytan directed a recess and at 9:48 P. M., the meeting was reconvened with all Members present as heretofore. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: COMMENTS, INTER -GOVERNMENTAL <br />AGENCY REPORTS, INFORMATION SESSION: <br />District i <br />CM Sanders shared his experience after attending the California League of Cities. He announced a <br />future conference in San Francisco. <br />District 4 <br />CM Cook reported that she attended the full conference of the California League of Cities. She <br />shared that each session stressed the following key words: Leadership, respect and <br />communication. She announced the Concert in the Park series to be held this summer. <br />District 5 <br />CM Bennett thanked people for their good wishes during her recent illness. She reported that the <br />Colton Fire Explorers won a First Place Trophy at a recent muster. <br />District 3 <br />CM Chastain spoke about the recent Ice Cream social/Model Train Show at the Library Museum. <br />At Large <br />City Council Nktinutes August 05, 1997 3 <br />
