Mr. Doug Blinkinsop, Colton Firefighter, reaffirmed the support of the Colton Firefighters <br />Association for Fire Chief Tom Hendrix and noted that 94% of the shift personnel had signed <br />the letter. <br />Billboards <br />Mr. Bob Rutherfurd, San Bernardino resident, submitted photographs and spoke about the <br />Adams billboards, specifically, the billboards located on rights of way, where supports meet <br />the ground and the existing dangerous conditions which compromise safety. <br />Various Topics <br />Ms. Kathy Davis addressed the picketing/demonstrations ordinance; the November ballot <br />measure proposing the election of six councilmembers "at large;" the November ballot <br />proposing a public safety special tax and the forgiveness of the electric utility loan to the <br />general fund. <br />Fireworks booth allotments <br />Mr. Mike Correra requested Council's assistance in establishing an equitable division and <br />rotation of fireworks booths allotments. CM Cook said the request would be reviewed. <br />Miscellany <br />Ms. Marlene Diedrich urged citizens to be informed. She spoke on the use of credit cards for <br />City business, about raises for police and firefighters; and, implementing Megan's law. <br />Recreation Lane <br />Ms. Jean Hart, Colton resident, commented on the recreation (bike) lane along Colton Avenue <br />and the proposed seniors parking lot across the street from the Hutton Center. <br />Variety <br />Mr. Jon Zane invited everyone to a Model Train Show and an ice cream social planned for <br />July 20, 1997, at the museum. He supported Tom Hendrix for Fire Chief and supported <br />Captain Pat Crowe for Police Chief, when the vacancy occurs. <br />At 9:49 P. M., Mayor Gaytan excused himself from the dais and Mayor Pro Tempore Cook <br />presided over the meeting. <br />Mr. William Yahn, Colton resident, opposed the picketing/demonstration ordinance; the <br />councilmembers elected at large ordinance; the public safety special tax; and, the forgiveness <br />of the Electric Utility loan. <br />Mr. Steve Anderson mentioned the Volunteer Firefighters Association; opposed union <br />busting; warned of legal action by Reche Canyon homeowners; applauded the City Attorney <br />who stood up to Taormina Industries; praised the Colton City News; promised solutions for <br />high pressure and soil problems to the residents at Wild Canyon; and, asked if it was possible <br />and feasible to review the card club issue to find a way to bring it to Colton.
