CM Cook read the proclamation declaring July 1. 1, 1997, as Coltonss f 10 ; birthday to be
<br />celebrated on July 12, 1997, with a fireworks display and entertainment. She reported there
<br />was a great response on donations and encouraged everyone to attend and enjoy this ev=ent.
<br />Mr, Ron Zimmer, Colton resident and businessman, announced the 75th birthday of the Colton
<br />Rotary Club to be celebrated on Saturday, June 1.4, 1997, from -00 P. M. to 10:00 P, M,, at
<br />the Movieland Frontier Town, with numerous events planned. The proceeds will. go towards
<br />a scholarship fund for students at Colton and floor ington High Schools.

<br />Mr, pied Cordova, Colton resident,, declared that the "blight" articles in The Vun were more
<br />effective than the local code enforcement. fie referred to the growing number of boarded -up
<br />houses that are an eye -sore to the community and urged that something be done.
<br />Ms. Jean Ferrante, Bolton resident, opposed the stormwater fee; the utility tax; and, the
<br />park ay,11i hting fee, She spoke about electric deregulation. She said Code Enforcement did
<br />their job but there was nothing to back them up compared to citing commercial property. She
<br />praised Mr, Gene'Mclkleans and the dire Department.
<br />Tr. William a l_n., Colton resident, supported a raise for police officers. Ile posed questions
<br />on the Al SteNvard lawsuit and: concluded that if the lawsuits were dropped, it would free up
<br />money to give employees long -deserved raises, He stated tile. utility tax was illegal and
<br />needed to be repealed with the money to be refunded or credited to the residents.
<br />Mr. William : ichards, Colton resident, said Colton Baptist Church was built in 1887, and
<br />asked that the church be involved the l Idil birthday celebration of the City, He identified
<br />problems with sand in the sewer -line connected to the church. Mayor Gaytan. referred the
<br />matter to Director Tom Clarke. Mr, Richards spore about traffic; light at 9 1hand Valley.
<br />Mr. John. Longfield, Colton resident, commented on raises for police Department, City
<br />employees and taxes. Mr.Longfield explained that CM Bennett was a City employee and that
<br />the MOU clause stated that any city employee, ether than the Police and dire Department, is
<br />entitled to have college classes paid up to S 1,500, now at $2,500. ;<-1e stated that Mayor
<br />aytan had failed to keep his word and did not enforc.e the Rules of Decorum to prevent
<br />personal attacks against department. heads and oun iftnen-ibers.

<br />Association's barbecue, the Utility Tax, speed bumps, Club 215 litigation, "Taormina
<br />investigation., and Reche Canyon Road repairs,
