The following individuals voiced community concerns: William Yalm, Kelly King, Terri Johnson
and David Peterman.
At 7:20 P. M., CM Chastain resumed her place at the dais.
CM Sanders supported Mrs. Johnson's comments and requested the City Manager to investigate
and report on this matter.
City Attorney Carvalho commented on Ms. Johnson's remarks and stated that Code Enforcement
and Community Development Staff had worked diligently on this matter, citing the property
owners a number of times and noted that when the office had been involved the property owners
did do a little clean-up so that the court would give them another day. An additional challenge is
that this area may be the home or habitat of an endangered species. In that event, the City
completely loses its discretionary ability to go in and abate a nuisance. She offered to assist
property owners, on her own time, with Small Claims Court actions under a private nuisance
theory and the use of self-help.
CM Sanders commented on Mr. Peterman's request for stop signs at Macy and Mill.
MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: COMMENTS, INTER -GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY
REPORTS, INFORMATION SESSION:
I INFORMATION:
District 6 - CM Grimsby said he talked with County Supervisor Hansberger's aide, who agreed
to meet with him and Assistant City Manager Parrish, to work on the turn lane on Litton and La
Cadena.
District 5 - CM Bennett urged contributions for the girls fast pitch softball and the Ken Hubbs All
Stars. She asked that an ordinance be submitted prohibiting "mosh pits" and "crowd surfing" and
an ordinance supporting an age restriction on concerts to go to legislators.
District 4 - CM Cook announced the City's 112' birthday celebration on July 10', supported by
the local businesses, that will include a Heritage days event. She asked that the City Manager
investigate and report on Rialto's "green" ordinance. CM Bennett applauded CM Cook for her
hard work in re -implementing the City's birthday celebration and continuing with the celebration
on a yearly basis.
District 3 - CM Chastain also applauded CM Cook for her hard work and described the events
planned for July 10'. She invited the residents to a committee meeting for the Mt. Vernon
Project on July 12'.
District 2 - CM DeLaRosa said he and staff worked to bring a recreation lunch program to
McKinley School and encouraged the residents to participate. In addressing the problem with
heights of existing driveways and approaches that were not level, City Manager Garcia said the
Contractor would return, at the completion of the CDBG project at Julie and Grey, to rectify the
discrepancies. CM DeLaRosa announced a meeting on July 12, 1999 at Knights of Columbus
City Council Mins July 6, 1999 4
