CM Ramos asked Parks, Recreation and Family Services Director Ron Kenny as to the
restoration of the benches and/or to consider the recommendation and make them a Historical
Site.
Director Kenny responded that several Consultants have stated that because of their age that
the benches cannot be moved and if that's true, then they do need to stay at that site. He also
stated that he agrees with CM Mitchell that the benches are now in the wrong place, however if
they are moved, it would probably destroy them.
CM Zamora asked President of the Colton Museum, Larry Shefield, what his opinion was
regarding the benches.
President Shefield responded that the benches should be designated as a Historic Landmark.
He is aware of the location problem, but that is where they originated and maybe with repair and
shelter, they might get the proper use and enjoyment.
Discussion continued with motion/second by CM Zamora/Ramos to table the Public Hearing
with direction to staff to return this item back to the Historic Preservation Commission and to
have the Commission Chairperson, Historic Preservation Consultant and Director Kenny meet
to find alternatives with direction to inform the Consultant that is working on the Master Park
Plan to determine the feasibility to include the benches as part of the Master Plan. Motion
carried with CM DeLaRosa absent.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
The following citizens addressed the Council: Julio Martinez, Jr. and Anthony Lang.
MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS:
Topics addressed by Council included:
➢ Thanks to Alan Sork
➢ Thanks to Randy Rivera
➢ Agua Mansa
➢ Thanks to Traffic Committee
➢ Signs on Agua Mansa
➢ Speed Humps
➢ Police Chief Review Board
➢ District 1 & 5 Tour
➢ Thanks to Randy Rivera's Crew
➢ Lights on Mt.
