Staff Report to the Mayor and City Council <br />Public Hearing - Weed Abatement Statement of Expenses/Opening Year-Round Weed <br />Abatement <br />August 20, 2024 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />Additionally, the Resolution authorized the Fire Chief to approve a contractor to perform the <br />abatement, to charge an administrative fee, and to place all contractor fees plus administrative <br />fees on the County Tax Rolls for collection. <br /> <br />Additionally, on August 6, 2024, the Council adopted Resolution R-82-24, transitioning to a <br />year-round weed abatement program requiring us to conduct a public hearing for property <br />owners who wish to protest the abatement of weeds on their property. <br /> <br />ISSUES/ANALYSIS <br /> <br />Abatement has been completed on approximately 83 parcels. As a courtesy, invoices have been <br />sent out, giving the property owners the opportunity to pay the City directly, forgoing placement <br />on the Tax Rolls. At this time, staff has processed a few payments on parcels. Should payments <br />be received for any abatement done, those parcels will be removed from the tax rolls. <br /> <br />City Council is needed to ratify Resolution R-73-24 and direct a certified copy to be filed with <br />the County Assessor’s Office. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACTS <br /> <br />Approximately 83 parcels have been abated to date resulting in the assessment of approximately <br />$70,192.00 in administrative fees, in addition to the contractor’s fees of $30,985.00. Any <br />amounts not collected through the invoice process will be sent to the S.B. County Assessor’s <br />Office for inclusion on the Tax Rolls. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br /> <br />1.
