FIRE BATTALION CHIEF <br />DEFINITION <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />Performs administrative, managerial and supervisory functions for <br />an assigned shift and any assigned major operational area, such as <br />Training, E.M.S., Ambulance, Communications, Maintenance and <br />Personnel. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general direction from the Fire Chief or his designated <br />representative. <br />Exercises direct or indirect supervision over all fire shift <br />personnel, technical and clerical staff. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, <br />the following: <br />Plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct operational <br />activities related to fire prevention, fire suppression, training, <br />inspections, investigations, emergency medical, and transport <br />services <br />Select, supervise, train and evaluate personnel assigned to each <br />operational area. <br />Develop and implement work schedules with other department <br />operational areas, other city departments and outside agencies; <br />assign materials and equipment in order to achieve maximum <br />efficiency in response time. <br />Develop recommendations for the department budget; monitor and <br />administer the budget. <br />Work with other staff to maintain, revise or improve the overall <br />operation of the Fire Department; formulate and administer <br />Department rules, regulations and procedures. <br />Identify problem areas, make recommendations for improving the fire <br />service, and coordinate mutual and automatic aid programs with <br />other jurisdictions. <br />Direct the preparation and maintenance of statistical and activity <br />reports regarding emergency incidents, fire prevention, fire <br />investigations and inspection activities. <br />1 <br />
