I III' <br />fr'- <br />xl� <br />�<J/ <br />�i <br />City of Colton <br />Fire Battalion Chief (continued) <br />Examples of duties (continued) <br />Directs fire fighting operations for structural fires and other <br />major emergencies; may assume command of the Fire Department in the <br />absence of the Fire Chief. <br />Represents the City in the community and at professional meetings <br />as required. <br />Conducts drills relating to proper use of fire protection <br />equipment. <br />Makes periodic personnel inspections and general inspections of <br />equipment, apparatus and fire stations. <br />Participates in public education programs. <br />Performs related duties as assigned. <br />DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS <br />Rnowled,e of: <br />Principles, practices and methods of modern fire suppression, <br />prevention, investigation, communications, training,emergency <br />medical services, labor relations, hazardous materials, and <br />training. <br />Fire and emergency medical apparatus, tools, equipment, <br />devices, facilities and their proper utilization and <br />maintenance requirements. <br />Principles and practices of supervision, scheduling, <br />performance evaluation, employee development and training in <br />a culturally diverse environment. <br />Standard procedures and policies of the City and Fire <br />Department <br />Ability to: <br />Make sound decisions and direct operations at the scene of all <br />incidents. <br />Plan, organize and coordinate the work of subordinate <br />personnel. <br />2 <br />
