CITY OF COLTON <br />Power Line Technician/Apprentice <br />Page 2 <br />Power Line Technician <br />Receives general supervision from the Line Crew <br />Supervisor. <br />Exercises no supervision. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br />Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Dig holes and set poles; install anchors, crossarms, pins, <br />insulators and bondings; string electrical lines. <br />Install switches, lighting arresters and other equipment on <br />lines. <br />Run service lines from the pole to consumers' premises; connect, <br />disconnect and replace service loops. <br />Maintain street lighting system including replacing burned out <br />lamps and repairing and replacing lines, insulators, transformers <br />and grounds. <br />Install risers, potheads and transformer systems; install <br />underground conduit and vaults; place underground electric <br />cables; splice underground connectors. <br />Trim trees to clear wires. <br />Operate a variety of equipment including electrical meters, line <br />trucks and budget trucks; keep trucks stocked with supplies, wash <br />and maintain equipment. <br />Perform emergency stand-by duties as required. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br />Power Line Technician Apprentice <br />Knowledge of: <br />Basic materials, methods and equipment used in the <br />construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and <br />underground transmission and distribution system. <br />Tools, equipment and methods employed in the construction <br />f*"N and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution <br />lines. <br />Necessary precautions to be taken in working with high <br />voltage lines. <br />Fundamental safety regulations and first aid. <br />
