SEWELL <br />Fire Chief <br />County Fire Warden <br />^..a. iV I`D <br />MAR 2 5 1MI <br />r GOLTON <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RE: Contract with the City of Colton for Household Hazardous Waste Services <br />l <br />Number of pages including cover sheet: 2 <br />Message <br />In support of contracts for Household Hazardous Waste Services, the San Bernardino County Fire <br />Department HHW Program provides the following as part of its service contract: <br />• Ensures the City of Colton meets or exceeds the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System <br />permit storntwater requirements by providing Colton residents a safe and convenient collection <br />facility for recycling of used oil, paints, pesticides and other household chemicals which are diverted <br />from stormwater channels. <br />• Ensures the City of Colton meets or exceeds the (AB939/AB2707) SRRE and HHWE mandated plan <br />requirements for diversion of Household Hazardous Waste from the solid waste stream by providing <br />Colton residents a safe and convenient collection facility for recycling of used oil, paints, pesticides <br />and other household chemicals which are diverted from solid waste collected in the city. <br />• Provides the City of Colton with as much recycled paint for graffiti abatement as it can use. Latex <br />paints are collected through the HHW Program and are bulked and recycled by a paint manufacturer <br />and donated back to cities at no charge. Over 500 gallons of paint have been received by Colton <br />over the last. contract cycles. <br />• Provides the City of Colton with grant writing services. Through a Regional Used Oil Recycling <br />Block Grant for FY 96/97, the City of Colton has access to $15,374 in grant funding and $13,795 in <br />FY 97/98.
