CITY OF COLTON <br />BUILDING INSPECTOR I & II <br />PAGE 2 <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Make field inspections of commercial and new buildings during various stages of construction <br />and remodeling to assure compliance with applicable codes and regulations of the City, county, <br />state, and federal agencies. <br />Conduct routine design review for conformance with uniform building codes and state, federal <br />and local laws and ordinances, including those related to structural, electrical, plumbing and <br />mechanical design. <br />Inspect foundations, equipment, plumbing, energy, gas lines, plastering, cement, electrical <br />installations and a variety of the building system elements. <br />Conduct inspections for certificates of occupancy. <br />Investigate complaints and indicate corrections. <br />Inspect buildings prior to proposed move to ensure conformance with code. <br />Inspect unsafe structures. <br />Confer with architects, contractors, builders and homeowners to discuss conformance problems, <br />review plans and check quality. <br />Keep records, prepare inspection reports and maintain correspondence. <br />Advise owners and builders on construction and building laws and codes. <br />Explain and interpret requirements and restrictions. <br />Assure vehicle upkeep and maintenance. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />OUALIFICATIONS: <br />Building Inspector I <br />Knowledge of: <br />Principles and techniques of building inspection work. <br />Safe work practices. <br />Accepted safety standards and methods of building construction. <br />Building related codes and ordinances enforceable by the City, specifically, the Uniform <br />Building, Plumbing, and Mechanical Codes, National Electric Code and Title 24 Energy <br />Code. <br />cApesshareljobs\BLDGINSP.DOC <br />
