CITY OF COLTON <br />CONSUMER SERVICE FIELD REPRESENTATIVE <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the general supervision of the Meter Operations Supervisor, performs the full array of <br />duties assigned to the class of Consumer Service Field Representative including turn on and turn <br />off of electrical and water services and investigate consumer meter reading and billing <br />complaints; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work <br />methods associated with assigned duties; performs a variety of other tasks in support of assigned <br />area of responsibility. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Consumer Service Field Representative is the class responsible for customer contact in the <br />field for the purpose of electric and water turn -ons and turn-offs. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Demonstrate a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods <br />associated with assigned duties. <br />• The incumbents in this position are responsible for turn on/off of electric service, electric <br />three-phase, and water service; delinquent electric and water shut off; hanging informational <br />tags; conducting re -reads of electric and water meters; checking voltage. <br />• Trouble shoot complaints for no power. <br />• Report code violations to inspectors. <br />• Install remote registers; install new electric meters; check for meter tampering; and conduct <br />testing of meters in the field. <br />• Respond to questions and concerns from the general public. <br />• Provide information as is appropriate and resolve complaints. <br />• Perform other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, <br />turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand <br />movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision <br />when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, <br />equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the <br />incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. <br />The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals which may expose the employee to <br />fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb <br />ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy <br />equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruption. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />
