LIBRARY CLERK IM CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of <br />• Maintains schedules for performing assigned duties; maintains appropriate work records and <br />documents including date due cards; prepares statistical reports on work activities as <br />necessary, <br />• May assist in shelving of books, periodicals, videos, cassettes and other library materials; <br />discards old and outdated materials as directed. <br />• Assists in maintaining a variety of information boards, (files and records including the job <br />resources board and the public information bulletin board). <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, <br />bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires <br />grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer <br />key board. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and <br />work-related documents. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for a Library Clerk II. A typical way of obtaining the required <br />qualifications is to possess one year of experience performing the duties of a Library Clerk <br />I and possession of the equivalent of a high school diploma. No prior experience is <br />necessary for the Library Clerk I position but the equivalent of a high school diploma is <br />required. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of:, or ability to obtain a valid, class C. California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SHILLS: <br />Knowledee of <br />Basic operations of a library services program. <br />Basic principles and practices of customer service library practices. <br />Operations and services for the circulation desk. <br />Modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software. <br />Ability to: <br />Courteously respond to patron issues and organizational concerns and needs. <br />Perform clerical library tasks. <br />Maintain records and files. <br />Work independently. <br />Understand and follow oral and written directions. <br />Apply applicable laws, codes and regulations. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships. <br />Skill to: <br />Effectively operate a motor vehicle on City streets. <br />Type at a speed of 40 words per minute. <br />Operate a computer terminal. <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL: February 17, 1998 <br />
