Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading <br />written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone <br />and counter service. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for an Electric Utility Systems Designer . A typical way of obtaining <br />the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of four years of experience as an <br />Electric Utilities Inspector or performance of related work and an associate degree in <br />engineering or a closely related field. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of or ability to obtain a valid class C California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Operations and standard operating procedures of an Engineering Technician program. <br />Principles and practices of program development and administration. <br />Complex principles and practices of an Electric Utility. <br />Methods and techniques of supervision, training and motivation. <br />Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. <br />Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. <br />Modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software. <br />Methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing. <br />Methods and techniques for record keeping. <br />Basic principles of mathematics. <br />Ability to: <br />Plan, organize and direct the work of subordinate staff. <br />Assist in the selection and supervision of subordinate staff. <br />Manage and oversee the operations and activities of the Electrical Engineering <br />Technician and inspection services. <br />Courteously respond to community issues, concerns and needs. <br />Analyze a complex issue and develop and implement an appropriate response. <br />Analyze and evaluate new and existing service delivery methods and standard operating <br />procedures. <br />Make adjustments to standard operating procedures as is appropriate. <br />Apply applicable laws, codes, and regulations. <br />Understand and follow instructions. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships. <br />Skill to: <br />Effectively utilize tools of the trade. <br />Operate a motor vehicle on City Streets. <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL: OCTOBER 19,1999 <br />
