CITY OF COLTON <br />ELECTRIC UTILITY INSPECTOR <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the general direction of the Electrical Systems Engineer, performs the full array of <br />duties assigned to an inspector including inspection and oversight of lines, electrical <br />boxes, and transformers; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, <br />procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs a variety of other <br />tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Electric Utility Inspector is the journey level class responsible for inspection and <br />coordination of outside agency construction of City electric utility distribution systems. <br />This classification is assigned primarily inspection and coordination duties and receives <br />technical and functional supervision from the Electric Utility Systems Designer. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: <br />Performs inspection and oversight of the construction utility electrical system and <br />inspection of electrical systems of City public works projects. <br />• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work <br />methods associated with assigned duties. <br />• Inspects underground and overhead facilities for residential and commercial <br />customers. <br />• Inspects City public works projects including installation of lines, electrical boxes, <br />and transformers. <br />• Inspects electrical systems of streetlights, traffic lights, and irrigation systems. <br />• Assure life safety issues are addressed and all safety rules are followed. <br />• Locates underground facilities in response to Dig Alert service requests. <br />• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as <br />is appropriate and resolves complaints. <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, <br />twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, making <br />repetitive hand movements and fine coordination in the performance of daily duties and <br />in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. The position also requires both near and <br />far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, <br />carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also <br />required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather <br />conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating <br />chemicals that may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature <br />of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing <br />tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy <br />traffic conditions and often work with constant interruption. <br />
