CITY OF COLTON <br />COMMUNITY CHILD CARE DIRECTOR <br />DEFINITION <br />Under supervision, plan, organize, implement, coordinate and schedule services of extended day Child Care and pre- <br />school programs for infant through school-age children at selected sites in the City of Colton. Supervise and direct all <br />staff. Plan, organize and implement additional professional services and educational experiences for Child Care and pre- <br />school students. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Community Child Care Director is the top management level class within the Child Care Division and is <br />responsible for planning, organizing and directing the activities and services of the Child Care facilities. This <br />classification is distinguished from the next lower classification of Community Child Care Administrative Assistant by <br />its full and overall management responsibility for the entire department. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercises direct supervision over professional, technical, clerical and volunteer staff. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Plan, organize, supervise and implement Child Care and pre-school programs that meet the needs of the community <br />and children participating in the Child Care and pre-school program. <br />• Provide operational policy and procedural direction over the Child Care and pre-school sites; inform residents of <br />services provided at the various Child Care and pre-school sites <br />• Assist in the development of division goals, objectives and plans for future services and facilities. <br />• Research community needs and assess viability and implement programs to meet those needs. <br />• Prepare, monitor and administer the division budget and all contracts; approve and coordinate all programs and <br />activities at the various Child Care and pre-school sites. <br />• Provide administrative support and technical assistance for Child Care and pre-school related grant requests. <br />• Ensure that all Child Care and pre-school personnel perform tasks in an efficient and safe manner; be culturally <br />sensitive to the needs and interests of participating families; select, supervise, train and evaluate employees. <br />• Attend City Council and Commission meetings as requested by the Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Services. <br />• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; perform other <br />related duties. <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and <br />stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine <br />coordination in preparing reports and using a computer key board. Additionally, the position requires near and far <br />vision in reading written reports and work related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone service. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a <br />Community Child Care Director. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of <br />five years directly related experience as a manager or directof providing care and supervision of children in a childcare, <br />educational or treatment oriented program and a bachelor's degree in education, psychology child development; or a <br />related field. <br />
