Council Member Lofy stated he was not happy in the way this matter
was brought before the Council and that he is reluctant to proceed
with this; however, he is well aware of the funding needs of the local
youth programs and it seems this is a way to help those organizations
in need.
Council Member Roman said he felt the request was worth taking a
chance on because the function will help the organizations that the
City cannot help.
Council Member Cisneros stated she wanted to know what organizations
are going to receive the proceeds.
Director Gaytan responded the funds raised at the Beer Garden would
go to the Gents and Latino Peace Officers. They will split the
proceeds.
Mr. Joe Mujica, President of the Latino Peace Officers and Vice
President of the Gents, stated they would initially receive the
funds; however, the funds would eventually be distributed to local
organizations.
Mr. Mujica stated he had just handed Mr. Gaytan a check for $250.00
for one of Colton's Girls Baseball Teams. It is not unusual for the
Gents to disburse 4 - 5 thousand dollars a month. The Gents organiza-
tion has $1 Million Liability Insurance and they have conducted Beer
Gardens annually in Redlands and San Bernardino without incident.
Mayor Gonzales stated he is aware of the Gents work with gangs through
San Salvador Church and through their contribution to the Citys Early
Intervention Program.
Council Member Lofy stated he would like to see a report on what is
received and what is dispensed.
Council Member Roman asked about security.
Mr. Mujica stated the organizations patrol their functions with their
membership and private security and are highly responsible.
Moved by Council Member Roman, seconded by Council Member Lofy, to
approve the request for a Beer Garden as recommended by staff.
Motion carried upon Roll Call Vote: Ayes: Roman, Lofy, Gonzales.
Noes: Cisneros, Rehrer.
Reichel Project
City Manager Sotelo stated this is the matter of Park Land in Lieu
of Fees and that Mr. Reichel would make a presentation.
11 U R 1 6 t91
