STAFF REPORTS:
PARIS RECREATION AND HUMAN SERVICE DlREQTQR'5 REPORT AND
RECOMMENDATION:
Boxing Club
Parks, Recreation and Human Services Director Merron reported on his first meeting with the
Boxing Club who is requesting that the City Council consider providing the organization with
a different facility. At the present time the Boxing Club and the Open Program share
facilities with alternative schedules affording each group with the use of the gyre for 10
hours each week. The Boxing Club believes that 10 hours per week is not sufficient to
operate their program and to adequately train their participants, The five-year capital project
plan identifies the need to either renovate the current facility or relocate the club. Mr. Herron
asked for more time to meet with the Boxing Club for further discussion and return to the
City Council Agenda.
Motion by Councilrnernber Cisneros, seconded by Councilman Roman, to allow Mr. Herron
more time for determination of the Boxing Club's needs and request. Unanimous vote.
CFD 88--1
Parrs, Recreation and Human Services Director Herron reported the necessity to establish
a budget to enable staff to hire an architect and begin to formalize the conceptual plans
regarding the expansion at Elizabeth Davis Park, established by the Committee. Cost of this
development project is estimated to be approximately $280,000. The amounts allocated and
available for use is $238,957, leaving a short -fall of $41,043. The citizen committee
recommended that the short -fall be reallocated from street rehabilitation, Staff
recommended that the budget be approved for the park expansion and to authorize the City
Manager to sign necessary contract for design work.
Motion by Councilmernber Cisneros, seconded by Councilman Roman, to accept and approve
the budget for Davis Parr expansion in the sura of $280,000 and to authorize the City
Manager to sign a professional contract with Cary Miller and Associates for design work,
Mr, Don Sanders, 1445 Teresa Ave., recognized that there was joint participation and hard
planning for the development of the facilities. He thanked the committee: Suzanne Carr,
Dave Toro, Don Turner and Richard Acevedo. He especially thanked lien Merron who, he
believed, brought a level of professionalism to this project.
Motion previously made is adopted by unanimous vote.
5
SEP 1992
