time and again. He complained that over 6 months ago he had asked the City Council
and City Manager to improve communications, to inform how much money is available
and report on the conversion, The City Manager related that staff is committed to this
project and had been working with Mr. London who goes to the mobile home park. at
least once a week. Staff member Suzanne Taylor reported that there had been
numerous meetings dealing with feasibility studies and financing matters. She
mentioned that there were several mobile home groups who had attended meetings,
Mr. Kalogonis responded that it was unrealistic to expect the park residents who may
work during the day to attend meetings scheduled during that time.
City Manager Levis indicated that it was never anticipated that the conversion would
be completed by June as this is a complex buy out. It is a mammoth project,
Councilmernber Sandoval apologized for targeting January as the conversion date. He
pointed out that upon assuming office, there were volumes of paperwork to
assimilate, There are a lot of complexities which must be addressed. Councilmember
Sandoval stated he would target June as conversion time. Progress is slow as this
proposed action is on the leading edge, Councilmernber Sandoval proposed a meeting
for Thursday, February 4 at 3,30 P, M. to discuss issues and invited Mr. Kalogonis,
the steering committee and any interested party to join and provide input.
Boxing QLtLbs
Councilmember Beltran indicated that sir months ago the two boxing clubs met to
work out an agreement as to the hours of participation. Now, there is a disagreement
as to the schedule and the City Council was asked to give Parks, Recreation and
Human Services Director Herron a direction.
City Attorney Brown, to avoid violation of the Brown Act, advised that this was not
an agendized item and that if City Council wished to discuss the matter that it should
be scheduled to appear at the next City Council Meeting or, another option, is to call
a special meeting.
Mayor Gonzales gave overview of the problem with housing two boxing clubs, one
club having been started by Sabas Robledo and Max Lofy and has been in existence
for over 20 years, There is a neer club with different people and the problem is the
hours. The problem appeared to be solved when Councilman Roman had obtained
another facility but that fell through. Payor Gonzales, Councilmernber Beltran and Mr.
Herron agreed to set up a meeting to attempt solution.
Parks, Recreation and Human Services Director Herron observed that there was a
verbal agreement on all issues but one - overlapping of training time.
Mr. Phillip flava declared that. City Council needed to recognize that people were
donating their time, They need to listen and to recognize them.
K
