Councilmember Sennett suggested that this item be continued to the <br />next meeting because there are several areas, such as Police and <br />Fire Departments where there are existing checks and balances. <br />Traditionally, sons have followed in the Footsteps of their fathers <br />and have become police officers or firemen. She asked if it would <br />it be possible to make some exceptions in this regard. <br />City manager Lewis responded that it is important to follow and <br />enforce the policy consistently throughout the City. <br />On Council consensus the Resolution Regulating Nepotism was <br />continued to the next ,meeting. <br />Discussion can Item 5, Award, of Contract for Computer for the Police <br />Department, was held with regard to the use of Asset Seizure <br />monies. mayor: Gonzales was of the opinion that the money should <br />become an integral part of the Police Budget and expenditure <br />requests should be considered at f 1sca l budget time. Councilmember <br />Sandoval, suggested that perhaps a. priority list would better <br />establish the beet use of the money. Councilmember Sandoval said <br />he would like to see a more direct benefit to the citizens, such <br />as, using the money for Citizens Patrol` Teen Drug intervention or. <br />Graffiti. Abatement, rather tha-1) using for internal department <br />benefit <br />Police Chief Stratton .i.nformed. the Council that a priority list did <br />not exist and the n*:ed for the computer {a.s to guarantee the <br />confidentiality of Police Reports. Unanimous vote. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS <br />Resolution No. R-7-93 <br />City manager Lewis reported staff is recon -mending approval of a <br />resolution to support legislation to eliminate unfunded federal <br />mandates and to transmit a signed copy to �'ongress�nan Condit, who <br />is sponsoring legislation. If the legislation proposed by <br />Congressman Condit is enacted, it will end the practice of imposing <br />Federal. Mandates on State and local. government without providing <br />funding and will ensure that the Federal Government pays the costs <br />incurred by those governments in complying with requirements. <br />Moved by Councilmember Rios,. seconded by Councilniember Cisneros, to <br />approve Resolution No. R-1.93. unanimous vote. <br />RESOLUTION NO.
