This condition
resulted after hearing testimony from the owner, Mr. Saldana, that
he did not have the money to rehabilitate the stand. He offered to
donate the structure to the City. The cost to bring the stend up
o code has been estimated t approximately $10f000.
Unfortunatelyt due to budgetary constraintso the City is not in a
financial position to fund the rehabilitation of the rootbeer stand
and stiff. therefore, recommends that the Council not designate the
Rootbeer Stand as a Historical Landmark.
Discussion followed with regard to assurance that the building
could be moved once rehabilitated, what. the $10,000 cost would
entail,, moving it to Fleming Park and what would become of the
building if the City did not rehabilitate the building.
Director Zamora stated that it was his belief that if the building
was rehabilitated it would then be a moveable structure., that the
$job 000 cost would only cover the rehabilitation and did not
include moving the structure and that if the building was not
designated a historical site as conditioned, the building would .be
demolished.
Councilmember Beltran stated that the City Council should seek to
remodel the reetbeer stand with volunteer labor and, donated
materials.
Moved. by Co n it ember Beltran, seconded by Cosineilmembe ° Sandoval.,
o instruct stiff to prepare a full report on what the cost would
be to bring the building up to code and to move it to a new
location and to report back to the City Council.
