CITY OF COLTON <br />PRINCIPAL LIBRARIAN <br />DEFINITION <br />To perform a variety of professional librarian duties including <br />responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating & <br />supervising a variety of major library service functions within <br />the Colton Public Library system. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives supervision from the Library Director. <br />Exercises functional and/or technical supervision over lower <br />level library personnel. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Duties may include, but are not limited to, <br />the following: <br />Review new publications and coordinate acquisition and/or <br />disposition of all library materials as appropriate. <br />Coordinate community relations. Prepare press releases, write <br />articles and make presentations before public groups and <br />organizations. <br />Assist in planning and developing policies, procedures and <br />schedules. <br />Analyze and prepare reports. Make recommendations on problems <br />and staff proposals. <br />Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff. <br />Coordinate the classification and cataloging of print and non - <br />print materials. <br />Supervise and participate in the operation of the young people's <br />section including readers advisory, reference, programming, and <br />materials selection. <br />Coordinate the organization and maintenance of library reference <br />services. <br />Plan and organize the library automation project. <br />Coordinate audio-visual, literacy, branch and other library <br />functions as required. <br />Participate in professional meetings and activities. <br />
