R- /off 3 '1 `{ <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF COLTON RE -NAMING <br />COLTON MUNICIPAL PARK CESAR <br />CHAVEZ PARK <br />WHEREAS, Resolution R-1 16A-93 which was adopted by the City Council of the City <br />of Colton on November 16, 1993 establishes standards for the naming of the City's parks, public <br />features and community facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, Resolution R -116A-93 specifically provides that the City Council may <br />name City parks in honor of individuals who have served their community in an exceptional and <br />distinguished manner; and <br />WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission, at the direction of the City Council <br />has evaluated the contributions of Cesar Chavez, organizer and former president of the United <br />Farm Workers of California; and <br />WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has unanimously determined at its <br />meeting held on October 12, 1994 that the contributions of Cesar Chavez to his community in <br />general and to the citizens of the City of Colton has had a profound and exceptional positive <br />effect; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council, upon review of the recommendation of the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission, and after hearing public comment on the issue, has also determined that <br />Cesar Chavez, who was personally known to members of the Colton Community and who <br />directly affected the lives of many of the residents of the City of Colton through his activities <br />on behalf of California farm workers and other individuals in need of a strong political voice and <br />by the positive role model his leadership and integrity have provided for the youth of this <br />
