RESOLUTION NO. R-61-92 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF COLTON, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING
THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY
OF SAN BERNARDINO TO RENDER SPECIFIED
SERVICES TO THE CITY RELATING TO THE
CONDUCT OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15,
1992.
Hermosa Memorial Gardens Cemetery Report:
Cemetery Manager and Risk Manager Ramos reported on a recent front-page
newspaper article which negatively highlighted her enforcement of mandatory
safety rules and regulations which specifically forbids the use of fencing on a burial
plot. She reported that utmost care and courtesy were extended by Cemetery
staff and herself in addressing Mrs. Villegas' complaint. Councilwoman Cisneros
inquired about paper decorations and flower arrangements brought to the cemetery
on holidays or special occasions. Mrs. Ramos indicated that Cemetery staff
members are patient to allow certain small displays; however, flowers left in glass
containers and fencing are forbidden. She stated that a member of the Cemetery
staff had been injured by glass shard which flew like a projectile when a glass
container broke as the employee was mowing the lawn. If fencing was allowed, it
would be placing the City in a vulnerable financial situation but most importantly, it
is not permissible by cemetery regulations.
Mrs. Ramos stated that every Thursday, as evidenced by signs posted in the
cemetery, flowers and decorations are removed so that the lawn can be
maintained. The decorations are placed in a shed where the owners can come and
claim the items.
Mrs. Ramos thanked and expressed appreciation to the members of the Cemetery
Staff and the members of the Cemetery Commission for a job well done. Mrs.
Ramos invited everyone to the Memorial Day Remembrance scheduled for Monday,
May 25, 1992.
CITY MANAGER'S REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
City Manager Lewis indicated that the following were non -action reports being
submitted by team leaders on goals set by the City Council.
7
MAY 1 9 X992
