Adoption of the International Fire Code and the California Fire Code. <br />There is hereby adopted by reference by the City of Colton for the purpose of <br />prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life, environment and property <br />from fire or explosion, the 2013 California Fire Code, as compiled and adopted by the <br />California Building Standards Commission (California Code of Regulations, Title 24), and <br />the whole of the 2012 International Fire Code published by the International Code <br />Council, including Chapter 1 and Appendix Chapters 4, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H, save <br />and except such portions as are hereafter deleted, modified or amended by this <br />Ordinance of which not less than three (3) copies have been and are now filed in the <br />office of the Clerk of the City of Colton and the same are hereby adopted and <br />incorporated fully as if set out at length herein. From the date on which this Ordinance <br />shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the City of <br />Colton. <br />15.16.020. Establishment of limits required by the California Fire Code <br />A. Storage of Flammable and Combustible Liquids. <br />Pursuant to Subsections 5704.2.9.6 and 5706.2.4.4 of the California Fire Code, the <br />storage of flammable and combustible liquids in outside above -ground unprotected tanks <br />and below -grade vaulted tanks is prohibited in all commercial occupancy areas, <br />developed residential areas, and other areas where the fire code official having <br />jurisdiction determines that the installation of flammable and combustible liquid above- <br />ground storage tanks or below -grade vaulted tanks will create a hazard to occupants <br />and property owners in the area. Deviation from these requirements may be allowed <br />only upon specific findings by the fire code official that the installation of said storage or <br />vaulted tanks are compatible with the surrounding area <br />B. Storage of Flammable Cryogenic Fluids. <br />The limits referred to in Subsection 5806.2 of the California Fire Code, in which the <br />storage of flammable cryogenic fluids in stationary containers is prohibited, are hereby <br />established as follows: flammable cryogenic fluids shall not be stored, dispensed or <br />used unless in the opinion of the fire code official, such storage will not create an <br />unacceptable threat to the occupants and property owners. <br />C. Bulk Storage of Liquefied Petroleum Gases. <br />Pursuant to Section 6401.2 of the California Fire Code, the aggregate capacity of <br />any one installation for the bulk storage of liquefied petroleum gases shall not exceed <br />2,000 water gallons in residential areas. In non-residential areas, when, in the opinion of <br />the fire code official having jurisdiction, the location of bulk storage of liquefied petroleum <br />gases would create a threat to the occupants and property owners, the aggregate <br />storage capacity of liquefied petroleum gas shall also be limited to 2,000 water gallons. <br />The fire code official shall be guided by the appropriate City or County Development <br />Code when permitting the storage of liquefied petroleum gas in excess of 2,000 water <br />gallons at any one installation. <br />23152.06300\8351650.2 - 9 - <br />
